Dave W ... totally agree with the DIY lifestyle .... I rarely have to get a 'man' in for anything (and when I do I almost always regret it) .... not a clue how much money has been saved over the years with all the building work, forestry, car repairs/rebuilds (not to mention race car engineering) and vegetable gardening providing the bulk of our food in the summer months (and beyond the summer months now we've built the polycrub)... it's meant us having a lifestyle of people much better off than we actually are.
That's not even touching on the peace of mind of knowing you can handle just about any job that gets thrown at you .... so many people must feel helpless in the face of the stuff they have in their lives ... and totally dependent on (often not good/reliable and increasingly expensive) 'tradespeople' .... wouldn't suit me one bit!
