they are made of a material that is liable to corrode over time.I had very similar problems to yours and investigated by two very competent auto electricians
with no success and finally found after car stopped abruptly at midnight in the country -it was then easy to see the flashing of the bad connection and ten minutes
to put a basic connector in.

Thanks for the pointer Chris, solved a sudden cut out for me after checking the inertia switch. This is mine ( the white connector) on the Gems 2003, if anyone is curious/trouble shooting. It is perishing, so replacement imminent. Looks like its had a bodge job anyway, or maybe thats the only bits left in the box that week at MMC? doh

Either way, TM was my go to to find the answer, so thanks chaps, keep it up cheers
