I changed my Centa for the Bleazey's upgrade one recently this summer. My car had around 13.000 km and still under factory warranty. But I changed it anyway.
Why? Because we tour with the 3-Wheeler. In September 2021 we did Madrid - Southwestern France - Grindelwald and back again. Many thousands of kms to enjoy a trip with friends. And if doing so your rollers fail, you have no other choice than been recovered and miss the rest of the holidays. It happened to a couple of friends while being in Switzerland then! As we were going to do this same trip this year, we didn't want to take the risk.
During this preventive change this summer, when we removed the engine we found that one of our rollers was missing a huge chunk. Once one roller is broken, you can have all others destroyed in few miles, or be lucky and still run some hundreds more. But once one roller is done, the other three may brake too and really fast because the whole system is unbalanced.
And, if you don't have this upgrade, and you're out of warranty, the cost in a Morgan dealer workshop to take out the engine and back is not cheap at all. And on many occasions MMC claims that the rollers are consumable items such as tyres and brake pads, so even if you're under warranty you may not be covered and pay the huge bill.
The rollers will fail. That’s for sure at 100%. The unknown is when. So, again, if you use your car to do just short daily trips not far from home, it’s not a big deal to wait for these to fail. But if you’re touring crossing the Atlas mountains in Morocco (one of our next trips, hopefully soon), that’s a totally different story, isn’t?
My opinion about doing this Centa modification or not depends more on the kind of use you do to your 3-Wheeler than anything else.
