I gently punch a hole in the centre of the core plug with a small screwdriver, then lever/pull it out - once an 'edge' is clear I use pliers to finish off.

I then clean the edges up and tap the new one in using a suitable sized socket inside the core plug. I use Wurth 250 round the edges to seal.
