A bit of sad history there Richard.
Tony Divey, of Triking Cyclecar fame, was commissioned by a German enthusiast to build 100 three wheeler replicas for the 100th anniversary of of the three wheeler Morgan. He approached us at Agostini and we advised that for that quantity of components he should talk directly to Moto Guzzi. Unfortunately whoever he talked to was so short sighted as to give him a price that was not much less than buying complete bikes. The project died at that point with only a partially completed prototype built.
It has to be said that unfortunately Tony's health was also failing at that time. As a result there was, shall we say, a certain amount of discontent in the Morgan administration and they did not want to know anything more about this project. I doubt very much that the factory itself ever even considered the Guzzi engine when they decided to produce the M3W.
Ironically the M3W was inspired by the Liberty Ace, which was inspired by the Triking (following, I believe, a failed attempt to order one*), which, in turn was inspired by the original Morgan three wheeler. Talk about full circle 🤣
* Pete Larson stated publicly that he had tried to order a three wheeler from a manufacture in the UK, without specifying who, and had given up. Tony Divey had by then suffered a stroke and was sadly not in the best of health. He offered my a partially completed left hand drive Triking that had been ordered by an American who had (quote) "disappeared". I may be wrong but I later put that together with Pete Larson's failed order.
In the end I declined the offer because of the near impossibility of getting a Triking registered in Italy.
It is a shame, the Triking is a much more elegant design than the other replicas out there. The JZR is good too, but I can't take to the Pembleton, and the less said about the Lomax the better!
