In April, I've been retired for five years. Not a single regret. As Paul said, the politics, the back stabbing, having to interact with people you would otherwise not spend a second with. All that I can do without.
If you live for work and have no hobbies, then retirement may be a challenge. But work for me was always secondary to my hobbies, which even now I don't have enough time for. Life is short. Work gets in the way. So get out as soon as your ducks are in a row.
