Thanks Dave, MAF has been cleaned, and then changed. Also cleaned the IAC valve, changed standard air filter and spark plugs. Next up will be the leads. I've had all manner of additives put in the fuel to clean the injectors also. It's not an issue as it never stalls, just when you are used to a perfectly smooth running engine in the tin top, it's just a bit irritating.

Coil pack ? even OE Ford one's are only about £60 ish

Never considered that. Don't mind shelling out £60, but is there a test I could do to see if that could be the cause?

Umm, not really a technical one, but symptoms similar to yours, like lumpy tickover, hesitation on acceleration, lack of torque, tend to point to a coil pack failing (buy a decent branded one, not some fleabay copycat crap)
