Another thing to remember about the Coronation is that it wasn't only the 'swearing in' of a Head of State of a major nation ...but also the consecration of the head of a significant world religion ... when you think of the swearing in of a President along with installing a new Pope at the same time, it all looked pretty swift and minimalist! 🙂
Point was made Saturday that we've been through 3 Prime Ministers and a change of Head of State in a few months with no drama ... in most countries (including the likes of the US) that would generate civil unrest and death (in many countires just going to the polls for a GE ends with deaths in the hundreds) .... I'd be wary of chucking out a millenium of what works for the assumption that the alternative would be better because it's abstractly 'more democratic' ... personally I'd need more than empty slogans about 'accountability' and 'democracy' when a quick glance round the planet indicates they're very often not worth the breath of shouting them. I've come to the point in my life when I'm less impressed by the abstract dogma and more by what works
Playing Devil's advocate here but anyone suggesting we overturn a system that's served the Country passably well for a thousand years should be able to come up with significant concrete and practical ways in which an elected Head of State would actually benefit our political system over our current way of doing things .. .. make a list for discussion 🙂

Ps ... I have no attatchment to any particular 'crown -wearer' ...we're talking institutions here rather than indivuduals that come and go within them.
