In 1961 I bought my very first car - a barn find from St Cleer Cornwall for 45 GBP. It ran and I drove it home to Devon and knowing very little about engines or much else I happily tinkered with it. The first job was to strip dirty silver paint off the wire wheels with Nitromores and polish up as best I could. The cable brakes were pretty dire and the MOT just managed to get 45% efficiency if the brake pedal was stamped on.
The image here is not the actual car but one very similar.... I found it advertised in the Western Morning news and later found a 1949 MG tc to replace the PB priced at GBP 175. Those were the days when such finds were rapidly being exported to the US. Terry and Barry Bone were the go-to guys for bits and spares.
