Morgan made roughly 1000 Morgan per year. The chassis are subcontracted. Having working during many years in the metal contruction, when you place a subcontract you provide drawings and a technical specification where are specified, drawings, the steel to use, surface treatment (galvanization by ex.) and so on.
The subcontractor who made the chassis (~ 4 per day) surely use a jig in order to position the different parts, to decrease the working duration and increase the precision and quality. Personnaly I have some doubt about the difference between 2 nude chassis having the same specification after passing control.
During galvanization, due to temperature, residual stresses due to welding or forming are released and could distord the chassis. In metal construction when we have to machin a welded structure, we do stress relieving in large heat treatment furnace. At the end Morgan replaced the galvanization by a protective paint avoiding distorsion.
We don't have the same approach, but we both love our MOG.
End of dicussion.
