As I have typed previously, I got into Porsche in the air cooled era, when they seemed 100% reliable and built to last once they started galv dipping the monocoque circa 1977. The interiors were also very robust.. Ferrari just scared me financially, and seemed built more along the lines of a race car, of which I had experienced enough of messing around with various 60`s-70 Lotus Elan, Europa, Elite, the difference betwixt them and Ferrari was the parts cost, thus I never arrived at lusting after a Ferrari much as I did machines that I might be able to repair and run on my meagre budget... Pity.
When I thought to go back to a tin top sports car, the tick boxes equated to an air cooled as being out of the running and anything water cooled in the 911 derivative range, would have to be a 997.1 or later.. I ended up with my 991.1 which I am into for circa £71K other than fuel and insurance, having bought 3 years of extended warranty and having paid to have a OPC service repeated a month or so after the same service had been performed by a Porsche specialist just prior to my buying it...Also have since had a oil and filter change as well brake fluid change circa 1 year on from purchase.... So perhaps with that in mind I could have been in a Ferrari after all.... BUT.... I do warm to the look of the curves and much else on my C4S, were it closer to the external dimensions of my air cooled Porsches, I might like it more, but then all the on board gimology seems to make it handle like a much smaller machine when the road narrows and corners tighten up.... (-: Having typed that... I suspect it`s circa 400HP seems well OTT for the sort of driving I enjoy..
The old Mog is in standard tune with carbs and I think it was perhaps circa 150 HP when new, and I never found it short of horses at any time on the roads that I had/have the good fortune to drive it on in my locality or while touring, though when touring I was ever in cruise mode and not seeking to stress anything in order to maintain reliability... I guess as ever, the secret lies in the power to weight ratio...? (-:
