Probably a partially stuck piggyback solenoid Viper. Proof of this make come from a second person operating starter button whilst you lightly tap the solenoid itself with a soft hammer. If the motor then operates you have the culprit although nowadays it means a complete new/exchange starter motor as mentioned earlier.

It doesn't sound like the starter relay as that makes a much lighter click although an easy check is with plug-in replacement if above reveals nothing.
