The process of replacing the tyres has begun, proxies ordered.

However I’m still still somewhat unconvinced by the reasons why and here’s my (unscientific) reasoning

If the tyre age was so important then surely it should be an MOT fail point. I’ve never seen tyre age mentioned even on some of my classic that have had very old tyres fitted when bought.

If tyres have a definitive useful life then that should be pointed out at the point of sale ( eg, tyres fitted have 112 months of useful life). I’ve bought new tyres that were manufactured a year previously.

There’s no information about how much 10 year old tyres may have deteriorated (guess that’s incalculable given the variables) and so is it a blanket guide to cover the manufacturers backs.

Finally I took a pal out a week or two ago, he’s a classic race car driver thinking of buying a Morgan. He was very impressed buy the ride, handling, comfort, grip and braking, we discussed the tyres and it was he who spotted the slight steering shimmy (I’d just got used to,it I suppose) but otherwise couldn’t feel any other tyre related issues.

To finish, tyres will be replaced soon but I’m still unsure why
