WIth my situation a cover was the only option - a portable garage thing would have completely blocked my front window.

The cover system I use has three straps that clip under the car - I only attach them if it's really windy. Bit fiddly but I've adapted a chunk timber to help feed the straps under. I've also got a couple of storm straps - elasticated straps that go completely round the car, but never had the need to use them.
