I recently complained to a local community radio station that had/has a bracket where they play a lot of American rap. Rap is not a genere that I like and I don't really consider it music, at best it is chant, but what really gets up my nose is the excessive gratuitous use of the F*** word and Motherf***er. I told them that clearly they did not understand that english speakers (myself included) may find these words offensive in a public broadcast.
Mrs Gambalunga is a subscriber to this station and we have it on for a good number of hours each day however when they start playing this type of records I change stations.
They were virtually the only station to constantly play this stuff and perhaps my complaint may have had some effect as I have not heard the constant use of recordings these words recently. Being a bit avant-garde is all very well , but ************
Strangely enough I have no problem with the humorous repetoire of "Fascinating Aïda" because it is humour and not meaningless use of language that would often be considered inappropriate. In their case, yes, it is designed to shock a little but also make you laugh in a context that has sense.
