Someone I knew used to leave his bike locked to the steel pipe pole of a street parking sign. He come out one morning to find they had cut the pole with a pipe cutter and taken the bike complete with its heavy duty chain and lock. Pole and sign were left lying on the ground.
Yup, there's that, of course. It still must have taken them time.
As for immobilisers, I don't trust them, after having seen faulty ones making the motorcycle unusable.
I figure that if overnighting someplace dodgy, the thing is covered in something dark, chained to something sturdy, and lacking the steering wheel, and they STILL want to steal it, an immobilser is unnecessary as surely they will circumvent that easily too.
