On my 2008 plus 4, the fuel gauge is working very well, albeit a little too optimistic in the beginnning. It starts out far above full and stays there fir a long time.
I suspect that there is an expensive PCB between the sender and the instrument. If it has falled, a cheaper fix would ve to use a fuel dipstick.
