The left mudguard stay broke through the attachment holes on my 2013 M3W yesterday. In the UK the left wheel is the one that runs in the gutter and the roads here now have many potholes. I had just hit a modest pothole when there was a bang and noise of the tyre rubbing. Pulled over and found the fractured stay, pushed it back into position and put a cable tie around the stump to try and secure it for the remaining 8 miles home.
On removal the centre vertical stay was found to be cracked as well, not sure if this was a consequence of the tyre rub or the cause? I know other people have had these stays break, so not a new problem. Although my car is 2013 the mudguards were replaced when the chassis was changed for a post 2014 one after 8,000 miles, mileage is now 48,000 miles, so these mudguards have done about 40,000 miles.
I suppose that this damage could be repaired but I would rather replace the complete mudguard. I would prefer to retain the original style mudguards. If anyone has replaced theirs with lightweight carbon fibre ones and the old steel ones are taking up valuable garage space, I would be happy to buy a pair off you for a reasonable price, they must be post 2014 type though. PM me or use the email at the end of the Alternative Parts List that I do.
