A bit of a rant....
Not only the vehicles which have become larger, one has only to view vids of street life in the 50`s and 60`s to note that it seems on average members of the general population have become more...err...rotund, and that it also seems our vehicles require to be mobile entertainment centres, suitable for dog transport as well as all the stuff we might have to take to the tip and much else ..Hmm..?
My First Porsche was a 69 912, followed by a 77, then 82 911`s all of which were considerably smaller than my current 991.... Thus from all the above, hardly surprising...?
Seems that housebuilders well into the 90`s and beyond still thought cars were of 50`s dimensions to the extent that in many housing estates many family cars could perhaps fit in, provided acess or egress via their doors was not required...?
That our road systems and their width were designed for horses all the way through to the first motorways the size of which even with later widening seem unable to keep up with the size weight and sheer volume of traffic.... Best get used to it...?
I also note that since a mix of Covid lockdowns, increase in dog ownership, and the introduction of satnav, many of the once quiet country roads have become rat runs, ancient bridges on them crumbling causing many to be closed for bridge reinforcement measures, also almost blocked with dog walkers inconsiderate parking....just need to relax and put it all down to evolutionary forces...?
