I share Simon's view on critics, a "critically acclaimed" film is usually a red flag to me as something I won't enjoy.
In the words of Teddy Roosevelt, "It is not the critic who counts: not the man who points out how the strong man stumbles or where the doer of deeds could have done better."
Or more succinctly, "A critic is a man who knows the way but can't drive the car." (Kenneth Tynan).
I'll admit I did enjoy Barry Norman's turn of phrase.
