Splitting it is very common to trads where the seat does not pleat forward and offer easy access to the rear compartment of the axle. Those owners (I was once one of them) place their knee in the middle of the seat to gain access to the rear area of the car hen the top is up. This practice inevitably splits the original webbing. https://www.gomog.com/allmorgan/seatrepair&removal.html always does.

I am happy to see another webbing type. Does it produce a different feel?

Once, when mogging very far from home, I did an emergency repair by weaving (crisscrossing) the bottom of the seat with the plastic cord they use with a lawn clipper. It was so comfortable that I forgot to change it for 2 years!
