I may be wrong but I thought the Entente Cordiale was with the Scots, not the English.
You're thinking of the Auld Alliance mate, in which France and Scotland agreed in 1295 what to do if either was attacked by England.
Entente Cordiale was between the UK and France in 1904, in which we recognised each other's colonial ambitions and agreed not to tread on each other's toes.
