Earlier posts seem to indicate that the issue lays with the way in which the cars are secured for ocean shipment, rather than a fault that existed in production.
Hope you get it sorted soon and I would imagine it has already been picked up by MMC

This is a very interesting thread.
I bought my '75 4/4 four seater in Queensland and had to have it freighted down to Victoria.
When it arrived it had a fractured bottom plate and fractured rebound spring on one side

and the seller of the vehicle, someone with not inconsiderable experience in importing and freighting vehicles, maintained that the only way that could have happened was by lashing the vehicle down too severely on the car transporter.
I didn't know enough on the subject to argue the toss anyway but the cost of repairs was sorted out amicably.
