Hi Paul. For what its worth, My Roadster wheel judders and snatches on the rough roads around Bucks but always improves when the tyres are pumped up with a few (5)PSI above recommended. On the Grande Tour the car was a sweet as any other I have driven on the smooth roads elsewhere, but the tyres needed pressure every 5 days or so.

Interesting speculation on increasing tyre pressures. When I met up with Stig and Nick [and a few others with older M3wheelers] last week, it was mentioned by someone that it may be a good idea to lower the front tyre pressures, so of course, I will try both.
It seems from feedback that other cars are suffering from the steering kickback too and the factory at present do not appear have any answer, but as Stig said, the steering damper on Nicks car has certainly tamed his wheel. My car is due into the dealer next week, so I will wait until after that to see if there is an improvement.

I wonder if car type tyres would help. Although the Avon SMs are certainly good, I think they are a motor bike tyre. The vintage community is getting good results from Blockleys which are car tyres, so should have stiffer sidewalls. That must have an effect on steering.
Tread pattern though is very vintage, but the speed rating is adequate at 130 mph.

[PaulJ] - Any update covering the the steering kickback issue you've been experiencing with your M3W!!!!

Yes and no! I have fitted a steering damper between the nearside track rod end and one of the brackets on the top suspension mount brace. I took the car out for a drive, full of hope that kickback was a thing of the past, but sadly, although a little better, my steering wheel still has a life of its' own when one of the wheels hits a bump.
I am trying to get to talk with Mark Baldwin at the factory, and see what they feel they can do. Originally, they said take it to the dealer, but having done this, with no improvement, I have to go to the factory, as the steering just spoils the pleasure of driving the car.

Thanks Paul,it's hard for the individual to gauge to what extent the steering wheel kickback is possibly effecting his car or various M3W's, but as you clearly state it does dampen (wrong choice of words), or take the edge of the pleasure of driving an intoxicating car. Also, having reviewed numerous videos on this site, most show the driver not having to fight/restrain the steering wheel in the majority of cases which I personally find possible on smoothish roads.
