Sue's SS Aero is JAP engined. Photo here. I don't know any current racers who use an an Anzani engine. They have a dreadful reputation stemming from the fact in period, valves broke and the cancellation of the Morgan contract and this combined with the fact Anzani unsuccessfully sued Morgan led to the company going bankrupt. In modern times of course, the valves have long been replaced with ok ones, but the reputation for fragility is still there, albeit misplaced. Most racers use JAPs, a few Matchless and a few Blackburne.

Well I think I know someone who has a racer with that engine in the UK, but it's not been seen on a track for a great many years.
As for the Australian Morgan, I'd imagine the supercharged specification of the engine in the UK would put it with the racers - many of whom are using methanol and seriously sticky rubber. Running what look like normal road tyres would put him nowhere. But, if he's having fun, that is what matters the most.

Well martyn, I bow to your superior knowledge but apart from the fact that the pushrods are closer together in one picture and every JAP engine I have seen has a flat plate/cover, with the name JAP in script, usually in red, in the front, plus two onesided wingnut screws, the two engines look extremely similar?
However, it must be coincidence??

From the front, sort of similar if you neglect the fact the pushrods are closer, but they look nothing alike from the top. More ordinary Anzanis have a nice cover over the valve gear which JAPs as fitted to Morgans never did. Ordinary Anzani Mog (Pete Thompsons car) And a jolly good website with pictures of most Morgan engines. Gerhard Kiesslings Morgan website My LTOW JAP Hope that helps!
