Had a good drive out this morning. A good selection of classics and convertibles out and about; TRs, MGs, an Austin A50, MX5s, Rileys, Jaguar XKs etc. However one thing that struck me some classic car drivers wave others don't. It is a nice feeling when they do wave. When you wave and they don't you can feel a bit daft. What do you do?

I wave- and hope to get a response. Some people are very snobbish, I used to do quite a lot of cycle touring and would acknowledge anyone else on a bike, but would often get no return from the road racers out training or the mountain bikers. When out walking in the countryside, I'll usually greet other walkers- it seems rude not to. Gerry. ps I feel quite chuffed when the driver of a vintage car waves at the Mog.

Me too Nick!
Out in the Land Roverthis morning - quick trip down to Shrivenham, saw lots of classics, the only ones that waved back were other Landies...
Cheers,

Interesting thread. I actually wrote a humorous blog about this fenomenon. The first rule was not to wave to cars with the hood up as you can not see if they wave back or not. The second rule was that all other sports cars have to wave first if they meet a Morgan. There were quite a lot of other rules as well, but can not remember at the moment. However tody on mine and my wifes 110 mile tour along the coast today with actuallu met two Morgans. Both with the top down of course and both waved. In Sweden we usually stop and have a chat when we meet Morgans, but today it there was no good place to stop. We also met a couple of late Jaguars with the top down, but we did not wave and neither did they. A nice MGTC on the road waved frenetically and showed good manner and respect for our Morgan. A lot of Miatas and Alfa Romeos were also on the roads today, but it does not seem that these people are as much real enthusiasts as people with British sports cars. But, i hope I am wrong. Maybe they will learn!

Interesting---In my student days and a decade or so beyond I drove a collection of VW beetles --and bl***y good they all were to. But EVERYONE driving another beetle oncoming waved automatically as they drove past, and I always felt it would have been rude not to have returned the greeting.I would certainly wave at another oncoming morgan either here or on the continent. No probs.

Always wave to other Morgans (even when driving the tin-top)- wave to drivers of other cars if they wave first!

I wave at anything vaguely Classic! Most of the time I get a wave back and it has surprised me the waves and light flashing of some classics that get there before me.
Riding a motorbike is interesting...there was a time when almost all other riders would nod or wave, even with me riding a BMW but that has died out a lot now sadly. I love waving at Harley Davidson riders...they just don't expect it from a BMW rider! Different on the continent where bikers all seem to wave or do that cocked leg thing! The best waves I had were in Austria a couple of years ago...5 or 6 motorbike police gave me a Mexican Wave!
