I had the same problem on my +8. Replaced the switch with a new one-problem solved. I now carry a spare with me. Ray 1550

Spotted Hawes beware the police set up speed traps each side of Hawes to catch the bikers and you can get caught . Stick to the limit for 10 or more miles each side of the place . With the dip's in the road you can get carried away and do over the limit as you come over a dip they have got you . They are very sneakish in those area's . Hi Bob, I'm new to Morgans having recently purchased a 2005 Plus 4. I have exactly the same problem, in my case I was told (not too politely!) by a biker whilst we were on a run out to Hawes in the Yorshire Dales. If your car is the same as mine, you will find the brake light switch operates on brake fluid pressure and is located inside the engine bay on the drivers side, by the chassis rail near the front of the engine. In my case the supplying dealer has agreed to replace it (as a warranty repair) noting that "The brake switches do fail like that..." It should be a straight forward job to exchange the switch, but the brake system will need bleeding afterwards to clear any air that may get into the brake pipes.

I regard these pressure brake switches as a consumable and replace them every 3 years, LED rear lights MAY increase the life.

Apparently, the same switch is used in the clutch line on the 3.7 Roadster. That's why mine wouldn't start Ian

my 2005 roadster suffered the same thing. After a year I bought a fridge door switch and mounted it on wood in front of the pedal.I ran one (dual core) wire from the pressure switch to my fridge thingy. Shortly after the factory developed a kit which is available to convert I believe. I used a fridge switch as they're designed to last forever on high voltage. I now have instant break lights; in fact I can make them light without braking if I choose. nick

Hi all, I had this problem on my 2003 Plus 8 and had fitted several brake light switches to cure the problem, they only worked well for about a month and then they would only work on hard braking. To solve the problem finally I fitted a relay in the brake light circuit so the switch worked the relay which in turn worked the stop lamps, this solved the problem once and for all. The reason that the fault ocures in the first place is that the load on the switch with three 21 watt bulbs is two great and the contacts in the switch get burnt because of arcing, The other way to solve the problem would be fit a new switch three led bulbs, thus reducing the load on the brake switch and reduce arcing of the contacts of the switch. regards Phil

Hello again, New pressure switch fitted at Lifes this morning and all is well again. Though having read all your comments above, I'm just a little concerned it will fail again... possibly quite soon. If it does, then I'll take the pedal operated switch modification route as advised. Great knowledge base on TM, especially for us new boys! Thanks
Philip.
