I often find that my Morgan gets a lot of 'respect' from the boy-racer of the customised Nova/Citroën / Peugeot /BMW brigade

I tend to wave at anything 'classic', up here we get an awful lot of good engineering going to/from John O'Groats so there's almost always something to see on my commute
. Most wave back, unless they're travelling at speed...
I find I have a problem with even admitting anything german is on the road anywhere near me, though, and Japanese cars get a patronising chuckle - am I very bad?

On a more series not i think there is 2x issues here,

2 = the fact that some people just havn't got a clue that it is a car, never mind a sort after classic car.

Mmm. It would be hard to replicate while driving a Morgan. Nice idea 'tho.

I'm quite free and easy with my waving; anything classic looking, anybody who waves at me, be they in a vehicle or a pedestrian. It doesn't cost anything, & if it adds to the sum of human happiness then why not ?

I'm finding more and more people are waving and I'm trying to analyse the responses, sad that I am. Mog owners, naturally are most enthusiastic and 'share the joy', Porsche owners tend to raise a finger (working on that one), Caterhams tend to ignore (hanging on for grim death?)most classics respond and yes any one who 'likes' really. Got to be a PHD here for someone!

Happen to me last Sunday in fact. Two lads in a Fiesta wanted to know all about the 4/4. They seemed in awe about it. I always take the time to talk with the young car enthusiasts (boy racers?) if they express an interest.

I tend to wave to anything classic and respond when waved to. One feels a little ridiculous sometimes but like Giles I feel it does not cost anything.

Jay: two of us on Guzzis were belting along at well over the speed limit when a couple of motorcycle cops coming the other way waved. For a moment I thought we were being flagged down but no, they were being more motorcyclists than cops, so we just waved back and kept going. I think the Italian MC cops have a soft spot for Guzzi even though they mainly ride BMW now.

I wave to thank people for making room on our narrow lanes, many people just glare back - I suspect mainly visitors. I always wave at classics, Morgans, replicas and normally get a wave back. Saw a new three wheeler going through East Charleton on Saturday, waved I think I got a wave back, my 97 year old mother thought it was in good condition for a pre war car - I had to explain that they are making them again.....

Dean see what SWMBO Says about this . My wife dragged me out of bed early y/day she had decided she wanted a crack at a bit of the Cleveland way ( got this shed a few pounds idea in her head ) . Started off at Staithes early m/ing and had every intention of walking to Whitby regatta . But what should happen to walk towards us but a group of naked rambler's ( yes both sexes ) . How am I suppose to WAVE at them while not looking . I said " lets get to the beach quickly with one eye on the tide and trying to walk along a beach full of sea weed and giant wet stones . I fell bang off one now got a black and blue knee along with a limp . Next time if we ever see any I am just going to wave at them no point in shutting my eyes those cliff tops are high and a deadly 200ft drop . SWMBO thought it a laugh husband flat out in wet seaweed . Suppose they have a point took my tee shirt off last night white body , red arms, red neck inc a red face !!!!!!!.

No experience in a Morgan yet as I am still waiting for my build date but plenty of experience of this in my father's 1911 Renault, which is an amazingly beautiful piece of automotive history.

We get quite a reasonable amount of people waving at the car in the UK, but the majority seem embarrassed and prefer to look the other way for some strange reason. My father says that when he takes the car on VCC rallies in France then absolutely everyone waves frantically, and usually with a huge grin on their faces. English reserve, perhaps?
