Having had my 4/4 Sport for three years 17,800mls my average is 45mpg - I'm also on my replacement set of tyres (TOYO'S) so possibly our driving styles are a little different.

Interesting to compare.

my cvh has averaged 34 mpg over the last 16 months (since I got an app on my phone to keep tabs) but the average over the last 2 months since I installed a K&N filter has been 37mpg, which is a surprise because the induction roar on full throttle has encouraged pretty vigorous driving since the swap...

That's good clearly making them faster is good for the environment as well As you say an unexpected bonus.

Yes I thought it would be interesting to compare.
I have never tried to calculate my mpg before, but I had a general assumption (just rough guessing, no calcs) that I was doing about 45mpg on the weekend runs that I use the 4/4 for, so I was pleasently suprised to have achieved over 50mpg, though I have to say that I was not pressing on quite as much as I sometimes do.
The main difference in driving style on my last trip was backing off my rate of acceleration through the gears a bit, and not trying to overtake at any/every opportunity. More planning ahead and getting past where I had a bit more time to do so, keeping things smooth and balanced. Much lighter on the brakes also. Just as much fun, I felt, but less adrenalin pumping.
I still made a respectable pace though, but certainly not racing...(not what I bought the Morgan for)

May I try a different tack?

Since and I retired (early!) we've adopted a phrase which may be applicable here, but first needs some background explanation....

Remember the film "Crocodile Dundee"?

There is a scene where 'Crocodile' is about to head off into the bush with the delightful blonde American journalist. His partner in their doggy tourism scheme, 'Walt' agrees to meet up with them on Wednesday(?), to which 'Crocodile' asks "What day is it today Walt?".

After setting 'Crocodile' straight on the day, 'Walt' quietly makes an observation on 'Crocodile's' character with the immortal phrase....

"Doesn't know, doesn't care"

Whilst we both drive diesels in day to day motoring (averaging circa 50m.p.g.), when in "Morgan Land" I put it to you that 'Crocodile's' view on life has hit the nail on the head?

Blimey ! That's an elaborate way of not having to analize how cleanly you control the car.

But seriously, I am not trying to shout about how much money I have saved on a run, although, economy is the most obvious conclusion that can be drawn from this thread.
There are spin offs to the original post already touched on by others regarding different states of tune showing different engine efficiency. It shows how older engines differ from the latest engines, and also throws up discussions on driving styles and techniques.

Never thought we would be talking about Crocodile Dundee, but hey, each to their own.

I used to have a reputation for "never using a sentence where a paragraph would do"... clearly I'll need to get snappier on TM!

I'm also a trip computer Ave m.p.g. obsessive when in the 'day car' so actually very focused on clean driving for tyres, brakes and fuel.

But when in the Morgan it's fun time... and the mileage quota is (comparatively) low.

I also would like to know if the electronic odometers are accurate. My speedo reads at least 10% fast. Must remember to check mileage against the satnav on the next run ( fellmog lakes weekend).

Certainly would be interesting to see if there is a significant error in our odometers.

Thinking about it, maybe my calcs are significantly out. I have to say that I didn't take the mileage reading from the car. I hadn't planned to check the mpg so I did'nt take a start odometer reading. I did however start with a fuel tank filled to the top (an extremely rare occurance in my case) and I decided upon my return to fill up, thus getting a fuel reading (as accurate as we can get).
The total mileage was taken from google maps following the exact route taken......so...maybe some bright spart out there might be able to state whether google maps is accurate or not. If so I might have to change my economy reading statement to 'Crocodile Dundee'
