Hello!
When I drive with hood up in our 4/4, I find it very noisy and popping sounds appear when the speed is close to 65 mph.
My dealer tells me to open the side screens to get rid of the popping sound, but it is still there.
I find it less noisy in even higher speeds with the hood down.
Is there a solution to get a nice ride with hood up?
Regards, Bosse

Not an expert, Bosse, but I think the best way to get rid of the popping roof is to get a custom fitted one made in a heavier material....Simmond's hood, for example.

The popping sound comes from the two webbing straps that link the hood frames together. They flap against the surface of the hood and make the sound we would rather not hear.

Getting the tension of the hood right has some influence on the noise.

I sometimes wedge a soft cloth between the webbing and the pvc hood. That helps a bit.

At about 80mph the standard roof seems to balloon upwards and stays there instead of beating itself to death against the roof bars and webbing.

Mind you at above 3 figures mph I feel as if it will fly off completely, as you say I am not keen on having the roof up at at all anyway.

We have found that at 120 km/h and above the Easyup hood flaps against the frame between the webbing (or are they velcro?) fixings. Wedging a couple of folded up paper tissues between the frame and the hood resolved the problem. I intend to seek a more elegant and permanent solution, pehaps a couple of velcro loops.

As long as it is not flapping it seems quieter at motoway speeds with the hood up.

Of course we drive with the hood down when the weather permits, but if you live close to the rainiest city in Sweden the hood needs sometimes be up mad

Sounds interesting, but how about the risk of cracking the windscreen due to the strong force applied to it?

I take your point there but the irony is that the 2Xcracked screens I have had were when the car was at rest once in the garage and the other whilst parked in a cul-de-sac outside the house. Both events far away time wise from the roof being up.
I only ever put the lid on if it is absolutely chucking it down. About 4 times in 3 years I guess.
