Chaps,
I have read with interest Dave W's guide to making rebound spring boots.
Dave likes to use neoprene and it is a very good material, however try as I might it is not available to me locally.
So I tried a few other ideas.
Then one day in the garage I found an old paint roller refill, a cheap and nasty one that with luck I have little intention of using.
The roller was 42mm wide, and was easy to shape with some tin -shears. I have not given any description on the cutting and measuring as it is pretty straight forward.
The shape of the roller makes it easy to snap on, then a couple of zip ties to retain and the job is done!
All the best
Tony

Like you I have not been able to source neoprene locally.
In the meantime, I would prefer to use a less rigid solution to allow for maximum compression of the rebound spring. I have gone with leather, bearing in mind, that I will need to change them before they rot. Another option is to look for rubber concertina tubes from steering racks etc. you can see why DaveW is an advocate of neoprene.

I'm planning to make a set from geotextile material. I was measuring up earlier today while checking the grease nipple threads for a remote greasing system ( 1/4 UNF on the stub axle, 1/8 BSP on the top). I'll post some pics when it's done...

Just to set the record straight..... grin2

My mark 2 gaiters are leather inners, mohair outers, plus an aluminium deflector. Belt & braces & braces in fact.

So no neoprene, except the invisible layer in the mohair.

Here's a reminder. OCD has its uses!

Hand stitched leather:

Machine stitched mohair (MrsW)

Aluminium shield.

DaveW thanks for clarification. My thinking regarding neoprene for this application would be that it does not mind getting wet and would dry out without affecting it's properties. My worry with the leather that I have used is if it gets too wet and dries out too often it may harden and crack.

Leather is prone to that but then again is easy to replace. E-Bay is awash with leather offcuts.............
I don't know how neoprene would cope with grease, which is why I went for mohair. My first version was mohair and that works really well. When I upgraded after 3 years it was still intact and doing the job.

This is very strange idea ,

I put together a reply to this thread with photos last night but when I hit the 'Submit' Button a message came up stating that the topic had been withdrawn redcard .

Odd Indeed (or just somewhere else where my opinion is not welcome) innocent laugh2

Not really an issue I would have thought as the trick is to keep the grease in and the dirt out idea .
