I agree about the kit route. What better way to get exactly what you want and have the achievement and pleasure from the build. I went to the kitcar show in stoneligh 5 or 6 years ago and saw some great kits for jags/cobras/and a myriad of others. Some good other jag replicas too. Some "odd"cars as well and weird looks and set ups. I came close to building a Striker for fun use - lotus 7 type but held off and bought a Morgan - absolutely no regrets., but wouldn't,t mind one as a track car - toyota 1.6 twin cam from Japan aka MR2 and tuneable with supercharger to 220bhp ! Strikers are slightly smaller than Caterhams and often beat them in competition.

I had a very interesting chat with the proprietor of Suffolk Sportscars, Roger Williams, at the Goodwood Revival. I have to say, I think their SS100 is a brilliant replica. Like you I had a long chat with Roger Williams at one of the shows and he gave of his time very freely and is immensely knowledgeable about the C-type, which is the Jaguar model that rocks my boat (it's cheaper than the SS100 too!). Dearer with the aluminium body, but accepted in historic racing apparently, due to its authentic reproduction of the real thing.

Depending on the actual spec, they started at GBP65k - a bit of a bargain imho when you see the level of finish. Factory built cars. Brian

Not a zillion miles off the price of a Roadster with all the bits.
Hmmmm.
No. Mustn't.

I wouldn't worry if I had a GOOD replica built properly with the right V8. A very prominent man in the fashion world has a multi-million pound original alpha spider that he cannot use enough due to insurance restrictions. He has ordered a superb replica from a local company to use "everyday" so he can enjoy the driving experience. Having seen the replicas WOW! An awesome car. With the price of originals in silly investment figures a GOOD replica is not a problem for me.What I do think is silly is the route seen where an MR2 can be fitted with a bodykit to make it look like a Ferrari and similar for other brands. This is not a true replica just a silly car.

I customer of mine does these kits, he has already received 2 warnings from Ferrari with regard to the decals, he now requests that the purchaser fit the decals themselves. Would you believe he can get upto £25k for a fully finished project...what a waist of money

I agree. I have seen one in the flesh. It was finished ok but was not the correct dimensions and the engine was a huge let down and give-away! You can buy a real Ferrari for not much more secondhand - £35k or a bit above for a good one such as a 360 or 355. So a £10k saving but a poor substitute.
