Had a 70's Renault 12 and had 7 years with only exhaust and tyres to sort..rust got to it then. So tried Peugeot...rust again! Those were the days. Gambalunga, go Subaru, bit thirsty but what a bit of kit, just love it. Perfect stable mate for a Mog too!

I'm thinking of the Subaru XV 2.0 diesel. It has pretty much the same dimensions as the Alfa Romeo Crosswagon and a slightly better performance due to a higher torque. The combined fuel consumption is 5.6 litres/100 km which beats the Alfa which is 7.3 lt/100km. Somehow they manage to get it 165 kg lighter than the Alfa, I'm not sure if that is a good thing.

Bro-in-Law has a diesel Forester (after the top end of his petrol one wore out at 150k miles). He likes the diesel...

Have a good test drive of the XV. It gets mixed reviews. I wasn't excited by it but economy is encouraging. Each to their own eh.
I reckon I've a few years to go Graham before reaching 150k, in fact about 17yrs on current usage:)...actually not sure which of us will be on the scrap heap first, me or it.Blimey that's sobering!!

Met an old guy a few years ago (at least he seemed like an old guy when I was a bit younger) who had a really early Subaru DL AWD mid 70s model. He had owned it from new and in a bit less than 20 years had done about 400,000 km. He claimed that apart from replacing consumables (such as clutch, brake parts etc.) and regular service changes of oil etc. the car had never required any work. When he left it started easily enough, sounded ok and did not blow any smoke.

[ I think the next will either be a Subaru or an Audi, both have excellent full time AWD systems. I had a go in a mate's Audi RS4 this weekend. What a totally bonkers car. Blisteringly fast, fabulous noise, unbelievable roadholding. Afterwards I said to him "you could go past anything in that" he replied "Yep. Anything except a petrol station."

Bro-in-Law's first Forester was an ex-demo model. I think that probably answers the short engine life...

Good point Graham. The discount catches you in the end! That RS4 sounds fun!
