To put it in context Peter - Some of the guys on here have offspring at one of our local Uni's too.

EXETER, probably the best university in the world when it comes to selling car stickers – at least that's what a casual observer strolling down Prince Charles Road might conclude.

The ubiquitous stickers – which send up a Carslberg advert which most undergraduates are too young to remember – were an instant hit when they went on sale in the early 1990s, and can now be seen in hatchbacks around the world.

The sticker enterprise demonstrates an entrepreneurial spirit which is still very much alive on campus today. crazy2

It was recently announced that the university was one of the fastest-growing companies in Europe.

In terms of entrepreneurship, OK but in more general terms bit dodgy I would have thought because although it might still be the only University outside of Oxbridge which has its own beagle pack, its slide down just about every university ranking table in the last couple of years has been less than salutory. Before you all condemn me as a stirrer, in my own subject, we were ranked 1 and Exter was 23, so I don't think I'm being too much of a churl here

Sorry it just gets my goat when this issue is brought up- although I do accept that the poster was very specific in what they said and the context in which they said it.
regards
G

Plug leads do deteriorate over time. A new set of standard spec fixes any issues. You don't need special ones.

Even then, there was no suggestion that the aforementioned stickers referred to the law faculty in particular....

Mark Twain quoted Benjamin Disraeli as saying "There are three kinds of lies; lies, damned lies and statistics". With so many different University rankings out there you can pretty much find one to prove anything you want. (BTW - overall Exeter seems to vary between 7th and 13th in the UK universities in the rankings of the broadsheet newspapers).

Agree totally,
The figures I used came from the Russel Group's own rankings but as you say, the various parameters used by the different surveys vary hugely.
For example, it's possible to move a University up significantly in some tables ( eg " The Times") by building more hall of residence places!! While the much- vaunted NSS ( National Student Survey) is so easy to skew it's unbelievable

Rant over
hide Cheers
