Emissions issues aside I generally prefer the manual car to drive. In my Aero S3 the manual gearbox was pretty stiff when new and has just got better and better over its 13,000 miles. Having driven several S4 Aero autos, plus Aero Supersports auto, and a Plus 8 auto I always find the auto winds up too much, creeps too much and I can't get used to the +/- backwards/forwards since I'm used to the other way round. However, I'm also sure the auto is faster (the manual box has quite a slow change, especially 1st to 2nd) and if that was what you ordered that is what you should have got.

There can be some driveline noises with the manual box. You'll find a lot more information on the manual box under the Aero 8...
Whatever happens you should seek compensation, and on a personal note, really sorry you must be rather disappointed having waited for what is a truly wonderful car to drive...

Why do I get the distinct feeling people are out for blood against the factory, see my first thread, the Customer will of surely sat down and went through an order form that will have small print attached, he will/ should check and double check the order before signing, if he has signed and ticket Manual by mistake there's no good bantering on about trying seek to grab money out of Morgan, I think it's time we added up how many great and accurate orders come out of Morgan Factory soapbox

Dear all,

Well, here in Switzerland you are somehow decoupled from the order process - it is not possible to order direct from the company; there needs to be a dealer between and you place the order for a Moggi similar to a e.g. BMW; you sign the order with all your options and 9 months later wink you get a call that your car arrived.

However, it seems that the dealer did not check the order confirmation from Malvern and - yep - you know the rest ...

Had a call yesterday with my Morgan dealer and the first offering was a discount of 2'000 CHF - n/c; he was saying btw, that the margin for a plus 8 seems to be roughly 10k which seems very low to me.

I keep you posted on the progress friends.

Kind regards,

René

I don't think anyone here is 'out for blood' from the factory. This is a dealer error and they should put it right.

As advised earlier, René needs to sure of his facts - was the order he signed quite clearly for an auto etc.

Dealer margins are around 15% aren't they?

I agree - this is almost certainly not the factory's fault, and I don't think people are having a go at the factory as such. There seems to be a much softer order and spec mechanism for Morgan cars than most and this is probably the dealer's responsibility. However it doesn't seem to be well defined.

When spec'cing a Porsche a few years back I had to sign off a detailed spec sheet in triplicate, and go through a detailed walk-through of the spec with the dealer.

I spec'd my recent 3W verbally at the dealer, and made a point to check the spec with them once more after that, but never had to sign a confirmation either from the dealer or back from the factory. Most of the order was fine, but the car arrived with shark decals (not ordered by me or the dealer), and the wrong exhaust shields (mistake between dealer and factory).

My issues were easily resolved but this case in Switzerland is rather more disastrous and a review of order / confirmation procedures should be made. And if I had ordered an auto and received a manual I would certainly want some compensation if I even felt I could accept the car. From the dealer. Or he could find someone else to buy the car.

Not sure what the Morgan dealer margins are, but many manufacturers work on between 5% and 10% dependent on the model.

I have to say that I agree with Dean. René ordered the car with the dealer, the dealer put the order in for fulfilment. If the dealer put the order into the factory incorrectly, there is zero blame on the part of MMC. Furthermore, if the dealer confirmed an incorrect build request from MMC, again, the dealer is at fault. The only way MMC would be at fault would be had they confirmed they were building an auto but actually built a manual. As anyone who has gone to the factory will attest, each car carries a build book with it from start to finish and this record is checked at each station; therefore, the chances of this happening are very unlikely.

René's contract is with the dealer and the dealer makes their margin for handling both the purchase and in cases where post delivery does not go as it should do.

René, the car is beautiful and I wish you many happy miles behind the wheel of this Plus 8, or one that is as per your original specification placed with the dealer. smile

As for your question about auto vs manual. I owned an S3 manual Aero 8, I own an auto Aeromax and have driven a manual new Plus 8. Personally, I think the ZF auto is a brilliant gearbox; however, and it is personal preference, I thought the manual was almost ideal for the Plus 8 and certainly the route I would take if I ordered one. That said, you should be happy with your purchase and if you intend to commute in the car, be stuck in stationary traffic and want ease of use, the auto box may be the ideal solution because the manual sport mode is very good.

This would be my personnal intention.

Let me drive the Manual until My correct spec car arrives, then you can have the Manual back and use it as a Demonstrator
Simples.

Dealer margins usually run 8-10%, plus they get buying bonuses for the numbers they achieve, however i think a Morgan might have slightly more %....just my opinion.
