This may be a sore subject for some but has anyone bought and fitted the fibreglass wings which are advertised in the club magazine? Are they a good copy of the steel/ Ali wings? Do they fit easily? Any issues with them form anyone who has fitted them? I imagibne some of the racer boys may have them fitted to reduce weight?

I had them fitted on a 76 4/4 and they were brilliant. I don't believe one could tell from looking at them.

Sid Watson is the guy who makes these now. the wings are great quality, Sid makes Fibreglass pannels for lots of different cars so has a wealth of experience. He can make them lightweight for competition using matting techniques, regular style (bathtub style) lightweight, regular or strong. All have re-enforced mounting/stress points.
The finish can be in a selection of colors which is handy expecially if you are looking to use low opacity paints or to help hide chips.
Generally you can't tell the difference without feeling under the arches for the tell tail glass stream texture on the inside.
In terms of fitting, best to make paper templates using your existing wings inner edge (assuming they are not bent). A diamond 2-3 inch rotary cutter provides a great finish and is easy to use. If you are sorting out all the wings, they comes as blanks so if you want a low-line look you can easily trim less off the blanks for a "wide arch" look.
Nothing to do with Sid, only a happy and re-occuring customer.

My former +4 from 1959 had fiber glass wings after the restoration at Rutherford Engeneering in the 80-ies. Looked very good. Ken.

My previous Morgan, a 1981 4/4 4-seater, had fibreglass wings. They were strong, as the owner of a Peugeuot 205, learned when she rammed my left front wing at speed. Her car was a write-off.
My chrome bumper took most of the impact and bended into the left front tire. I had to change the bumper and a tire. The front wing got a small crack but was repaired professionally and afterwards the car looked even better than before, especially since I got both front wings and the cowl repainted to avoid any colour differences.

I looked at a +8 at Allon Whites probably about 4 Years ago now when I was deciding whether to return to a +8 or not.
They had an Ivory or Old English White +8 in with fibreglass front wings and the finish was excellent topside at least.
This car had been rebuilt by a Morgan Club somewhere in Taffyland and carried a plate stating this on it, someone might know/own this car on TM ?

Sid Watson's wings are superb, don't even need painting! So solid you do not need the bracing bars.

My 4/4 has fibreglass wings all round fitted by Rutherford in 2002. No one has yet noticed they are fibreglass. To me on a car that gets used quite a bit and is an older one they seem like an eminantly sensible option to me. Looking at the car I genuinely think with the same quality as the wings it would make sense to do the rest of the body in the same material...

Excellent, thanks for all the replies. Definately something to consider when I get to sorting out the wings next year.
