Has any one sent their front exhaust pipes to jet hot or any ceramic coating shop to be dipped? I did this on a big block Ford and it reduced engine heat, and never rusted, rotted or changed color. These headers were expensive to have made, and after 12 years, look as good as new.

I will send mine out to Jet Hot when the M3 comes in May, as it seems neither the Crome or black pipes look presentable very long.

I had +8 RPI manifolds Cermacoated in 2004 and can confirm that they look as good as new. It is important to do the inside as well.

Done it to mine inside and out . At first a good few years ago I used a spray wrapped a duster around it as it slips through the inner valance . Dropped the bonnet and gave it a blast up the road flames shooting out I screached to a halt grabbed the duster and flung it into the gutter, lucky not a mark not even a soot mark, phew . A bad habit of to eager to enjoy a ride and forgetting what I had done . I used an American paint a couple of year ago and did it grey more smoke and steam came off it when I started it up than a Turkish baths . Still got a load left if anyone wants it ( £40/- per tin you can have it FOC ) . But it states can cause cancer on the tin . Now its been sent away and done for me in black satin . It would look good on the M3W exhausts .

I'm referring to sending out the tubes to a professional shop that does this for a living. Often referred to as Jet Hot Ceramic Coating. I'd not try it at home, and would do it inside and out in a dip tank, but not the flex cuffs.

I had a manifold for my 4/4 done by Zircotec in Abingdon a couple of years ago. Very pleased with the work.

I just got a quote from Ryan at Polymer Dynamics in Houston Texas for ceramic coating inside and out for $154USD. Takes two weeks, and makes no difference if they are new or used, chrome or steel. 281.894.6382

Seems like a very good option as the heat of the exhaust is kept away from the metal of the tube, so they should last much longer and look good to their lifetime.

I just had a very informative conversation with Pete Larson who indicated the "black exhaust pipe" option at 495 pounds is in fact a black ceramic coating both inside and out direct from the factory. While expensive, it is a factory option and adds no down time resultant from an aftermarket coating.

He tells me that S&S bench tests every motor for the equivalent of 50 miles, and then changes and examines the oil. This procedure gets all the fine metallics out of the motor and documents each motor individually.

The 1000 mile break in is a reasonable requirement for the new owner prior to the first oil change.

Seems the quick release steering wheel has been disabled in US imports due to some regulation. He feels that the std 15" wheel is mounted high enough for most drivers to get in and out of the seat with out the need to remove the wheel.

My 2013 is yet to be built but I will add the factory ceramic pipes to my build spec.

A bit off topic from ceramic coating, but the quick release on the steering wheel is "disabled" by a too long mouting bolt that prevents the release ring from being pulled back. Ten seconds with a hack saw renables the quick release. The bolt also can be replaced with a shorter one, but it's a allen head bolt with an anti-tampering pin.

Yep, the first thing I did was to tamper with mine, and it works a treat now.
