Hello everyone, I'm new to Morgan and I'm from Sweden. That's why I will have to ask you to forgive me asking about obvious things with strange spelling (sometimes).
My Morgan is a 4/4 -99 with a Ford Zetec engine, lovely Indigo blue. I bought it in England and drove it through France and Germany to Sweden during the rainiest 3-dayperiod in living memory. But I didn't get wet! ... from outside anyhow. But since the engine temperature gauge was glued to 115 degrees Celsius I had to have the heater and fan going all the time to keep the radiator from exploding (I thought) - the cabin became very hot and the side windows didn't help much. Interesting experience anyway :-) Something else I experienced was the hard ride. On the motorway from London to Dover the front end was jumping severely and there was very little movement in the suspension - the tires was not perfectly round either. I was a bit embarrassed driving/jumping slowly alongside others on the congested road. The main problem was probably the Nylon bushings and lack of grease/oil - new round tires and frequent use of the 'one shot oiler' has helped a lot though.
I have had a lot of thoughts about Morgan front end suspension since then (2011) and have studied the subject on the net thoroughly - thank you everyone! Finally I think I have found the perfect solution for me: Rising rate springs - wanted by many I suppose. Softer, still firm and more drivable on bumpy roads.
From a reliable source I have heard that rising rate springs will be available quite soon. The new Morgan 4/4 Sport suspension I think is a big step in the right direction, but rising rate springs is yet another significant step forward. I love the thought that the original construction, the sliding hub/pillar suspension, will still be going strong for another couple of decades thanks to some ingenious and persevering people and in true Morgan spirit.
I found that the plastic bushes on my Roadster would start to squeak when turning the steering wheel at low speeds. That was my reminder to grease the suspension... It also made the suspension a bit harder. No problems for the 30000 miles I had it.
