Is it only me that has found the direction indicator on my new December 2012 M3W illogical?
If you use it doing more than 10MPH it cancels after 10 seconds which is a bit worrying if you are using dual carriageways or motorways as you have to remember to engage it again and again until you turn. Also to cancel you have to turn it in the same direction as the turn which is also counter intuitive
Why could not Morgan installed a normal indicator arrangement? Or if this was not possible a non self cancelling one like on motorcycles then you would know exactly what to do which would save you from glancing at the fascia dial all of the time

A lot of motorcycles now have self cancelling indicators.
Unfortunately, most cars indicators are now ECU controlled, with function that at first is a real pain until one gets used to it. Taking yet more control away from the driver is not the best method to promote good driving...

What a pain in the arse they are as well: I was forever thinking that they hadn't self-cancelled on the Harley so I'd hit the switch again at the very moment they went off, thus switching them back on again. Grrrr.

Are they using an S&S motorcycle ECU? that could explain why they function that way. Are self cancelling indicators now mandatry on American motorcycles?

I used to have that exact same problem!

I have that problem with my M3W - so spoke to the factory about it - I think its a fault!If u play with your indicator whilst stationary it will not cancel - mine cancels after 10 secs over 10mph which is way too soon - and IMHO dangerous if turning right (or left come to that!)

Sooo going to get this looked at in a few weeks time when in for service at the factory -will post update!

My old (pre-2000) motorcycles had this "feature". Never cancel while stopped, e.g. at a light. Then, cancel pretty fast when moving, e.g. turning a corner. Finally, cancel really fast when moving fast, e.g. changing lanes on a freeway.

Unfortunately, the only way to know what had happened was to take your eyes off the road and look down at the indicator.

Solutions were:

#1 Install a really loud signal buzzer to provide audible feedback that you could hear at speed. BEEP BEEP BEEP!

#2 Signal once to alert traffic that you are planning a turn or lane change, then cancel the signal and re-signal when you are actually making the move.

For sure the hardest was signaling in advance of a lane change because just when it was important to watch the next lane AND signal -- the auto-cancel would strike. I got in the habit of thumbing the signal OFF/ON frequently while looking over my shoulder at the traffic in the next lane.

Seems like we will all be learning those tricks on the M3W.
