Partly the first lot was sorting a firm with bad apples ( workers ) .A cousin used to be called into ship yards and car worker factories etc to break up strikes he was not much bigger than me and said he enjoyed it but claimed I had a harder job and would not swap .


The mog to get that re-spray one chap was Oh yes we have done 6 mogs . I sent him pictures of mine and by was his story differant . Why cant people tell the truth in the first place , because I am going to find out . At first it was we pick it up we have this and that never had a complaint ever ( that made me think ) after the e-mail photos , its my bad shoulder cant drive , dont have a pick up truck , we are rushed off our feet no space left. I was going to put the phone down on him but thought why be like him just end the call with a I am busy have to go. I was going to go and look the place over with my wife and not tell him who I was till I was happy , so he has saved me a journey.

Only issue I can see is how much vibration is there? Were I choosing a non original wheel for mine, I'd be going for a soft rim, ie leather covered, but other than early cars (which are 135 degrees), 2 and 3 speeders are 270 degrees lock to lock so are rather sharp on steering wheel feel.

That's a gorgeous wheel, but it will partially block sight of the instruments on the modern 3W. The wheel needs to be more this configuration, but I take your point about the the holes.

Ah, that says a four spoke wheel would also block instruments.

I presume the 5 speeder steering boss is either symmetrical or easily rotated, but presumably complicated by the release mechanism. Or you could have the Aston type wheel mounted as per you suggestion since the wheels are bespoke anyway.

Nooooooooo, not that one. I was introduced to this site by the OP, Rufus3 (Paul). I'm Mike Lempert, the crafter of the steering wheel for his new M3W. I wanted to introduce myself to this community, but am sensitive to this being seen as an unwanted attempt at advertising, so I will slant it like this... I'm a classic car guy that extended my hobby and as well as enjoying my cars, I very much enjoy the interactions I have with other enthusiasts, especially the Austin-Healey crowd; my marque of choice. I often make myself available to enthusiasts in forums, by email, or via phone calls to help with any questions relative to the steering wheels of the period. I suppose after nine years of collecting and study, I'm about as expert as anyone. So I'd like to offer myself as a resource to this group, not just for what I can offer, but to help with any questions you might have.

Now to get back to my opening statement, the proper steering wheel for the M3W is probably a four spoke, but can also be a three spoke similar to the Aston wheel pointed out in an earlier post. The important thing is the spoke configuration, and this is where many get it wrong. Most times back in the day, the car builders did pay attention to their steering wheel selections, and that was based much on instrument layout. A four spoke was used in the early Trikes and it looks as though it would be okay on the M3W (from the pictures I've seen). A three spoke is also a good choice, especially with the instruments mounted off to the side as they are. However, the three spoke, with equal 120 degree spacing, should have a spoke at 12 o'clock, not 6 o'clock. This is a common error people make with the 120 degree spokes, thinking it's a Y configuration. Austin Healey is an excellent example where this thinking has gone awry. The cars were delivered from the factory with a spoke at 12 o'clock, but over the years mechanics would mount them in a Y after doing work resulting in many having their wheels upside down. My mechanic did it to me once.

Mike: Thank you for weighing in. I would like to know if the control column from a Douglas DC-3 could be fitted. The three-wheeler is, in many aspects, as close to an airplane as I've seen. Having flown many hours hauling freight in a DC-3, It would be a natural for my M3W. If this post is contrary to site policy, kindly PM me.

Piloto...... interesting concept! I assume you mean the wheel and not the whole column! I can see where you are coming from but turning corners might be a tad interesting.
