So why use a dated wheel when there are some perfectly good modern, but sympathetic items which would work? My 11" Motolita for example. BTW, I did not choose this wheel, it was already in my garage, from its' previous incarnation on a S111 Lotus twincam Seven, even then it was wrong, but looked and felt right.

As I don't like the standard wheel on the 3W, mine had this wheel fitted from new from the Works.

I think that one of the benefits of the detachable wheel is that its possible to have more than one wheel, maybe one for driving and one for showing, though I do take cognisance of Martin's point about no slots.

Your Mog 3W Oscar wheel looks gorgeous Mike, but could it be made with no slots? smile

Sure, I make everything to customer order - totally bespoke. But I don't understand the objection to holes or slots; is it just visual preference?

The Walsall would fit your Moto-Lita boss with only some re-drilling of holes.

Attached a photo of my dash layout....the standard one for later cars. Whilst I do like 4 spoke wheels it would have to be mounted with top spoke 45 degrees off the vertical to avoid hiding the rev counter. The TOK design is nice although it would need a larger boss...the Walsall (just up the road from me!) I cannot find on your website.

Looks nice Jay.

I can see this thread leading me to a non-essential purchase in the near future wink

Yes, but also holes and slots in a Motolita type wheel look very post-war/60's. I know that I'm now going to be proved wrong! hide

There's an interesting article on wheels in the current Morgan World magazine by Machiel Kalf. He has a beautiful, and award winning Plus 4 Super Sports and has been able to obtain a Walsall wheel from Melvyn Rutter, which he has restored himself for his car. flag

Jay: I'm afraid changing the center of the TOK wheel to something as large as the Moto-Lita boss would destroy the look. The Walsall might be your best bet for something with an original look. While the ones used for the Plus 4 had smaller Centers, Walsall did make a larger center wheel, mostly for the Les Leston line. That can be seen here:

There is another four spoke that I make with a nine hole center that would mount directly to your boss. This version has a multi-layered spoke, but of course the two top ones can be left off and the rim can be more modest.

Thanks, Brian. Here's a short story about that wheel... I made it for a gent who was having the original Doane Spencer 2 hot rod restored by So-Cal Speedshop. After much discussion and sharing of wood samples, the customer decided on what you see, figured bubinga (African rosewood) with ebony lined joints. AFter delivering it to So-Cal, the fellow there decided it too too much attention away from the interior, so he had the rim painted flat black and the spokes flat gray. I nearly cried.
