The Duratec 2.00 +4 has its spark plugs situated in a trough between the cams. The trough gathers water from the louvers and the bonnet hinge.
A few days ago, the car ( daily driver) was left in the elements, when I wanted to go home from work, the car started but was misfiring badly.
I limped home and resolved to sort the problem next day. I removed the rubber insulating spark plug covers and had a look down the tubes. There was a great deal of gathered water in the tubes. I dried them out and removed the plugs, cleaned them and replaced.
No harm done, but the engine management fault display on the dash would not recognise the fault fix.
A run on the diagnostic from my local garage resolved the display.
Has any one fashioned a way - other than a storm cover - to avoid water gathering in the same place again?

Tony, I'm surprised that you can get such a quantity of water down to the plugs- don't the plug covers seal off the tubes. I guess my older Zetec has a similar arrangement and I've never had that problem.
I'm sure I've seen some posts on here about keeping the water out when washing the car, I'm sure someone will come up with a solution.

Tony, Years ago I used to run one of those " high octane" rear engine Fiats and the rain always got onto the engine through the vents in the lid. The only way I could get around the problem was by putting a sheet over the engine when I left it however it did make a mess when I once forgot it!!

Hi There is a carbon fibre cover made for a Zetec engine which prevents any water.Cost about £30.

It is a simple job to make a cover: I have one each side of the bonnet hinge made from aluminum, which sheds the water away from the length of engine block.

Hi meabh! A very good idea but how do you attach the 'protectors' under the bonnet? Some kind of 'glue' or suction cups?

I believe Burton Power also sell a solution too....no personal link to then just a satisfied customer.

Probably not....unless you've fitted a Mitsubishi engine to your Morgan.  Neat idea though and would look good.
