It felt like things were starting to fall into place just a little to easily, so I guess I should have expected an issue.

My issue is insuring my Morgan. Over a month ago, I contacted my insurance agent and she lined me up with a couple quotes from Hagerty Classic Car Insurance, so I went with one, submitted my details and paid for a full year of coverage the day they asked for it. Only to receive an email today stating that after review, they didn't want to take the risk of insuring my Morgan.

My agent said that Hagerty is the only insurance firm from all of the companies that they represent who said yes in the first place. So now I am stuck with a 3 wheeler that is about to be here and no place offering to insure it. I am curious as to who other people in the US have gotten to insure their 3 wheelers?

I have a clean driving record, only a couple 5 over tickets in the last 10 years. Only one claim on any of my insurances policies in the last 10 years. My daily driver is a '06 BMW with less than 80k miles and it is paid for. The reasons given to me for not insuring my Morgan is that my BMW is too old, and saying that 5000 miles of use per year on a new 3 wheeler is too much... all sounds like a load to me.

So, what are the TM sages words of advice for me on this issue?

How do 'trikes' get insured in the USA?

Is it classed as a car or something else?

As far as I was told, the Morgan 3 Wheeler will insure and register as a motorcycle. I don't know about any other trikes though.

Try your insurance company again, but this time for 3000 mile per annum. If you get insurance, and you are going to exceed that limit, you then renegotiate with them, but at least you have insurance to start with.
Best of luck.

I said that 5000 miles per year was a high end estimate and that It would more than likely be half that amount and I was told "What it comes down to is they don’t want to insure it."

EDIT: I have called John at Auto Europe to see where others have gone for insurance and he is getting in touch with Hagerty to see what the story is and he is supposed to call me back with any news.

The Morgan dealers in the USA must have come across this issue with customer cars; so maybe worth an email to them to see if any have the solution?

I don't see what your BMW has to do with it, however could you transfer it to your wife or a friend and be a named driver?

I thought it was the land of the free!

I have a few car owning chums in the USA (vintage cars). Want me to ask around?

The "issue" with my BMW stems from their concern that the Morgan would be my Primary Vehicle...

I would approach Morgan in the UK. The US market must be something they are keen to tackle with the Three Wheeler, so I would expect (hope) they would want to help you resolve this one.....

Good luck!

I am sure that you have, but have you considered insuring it as a motorcycle? I have no idea if that would work or if that is what you are trying for right now.
