They are smaller than Aero light fittings. The Aero lamps are the same as recent trad front lamps (77mm diam). Boltonbits do have a Wipac LED unit at 75mm that may substitute for those.

How did you know that, many thanks will look into it

Rather than start a new thread - does anyone have a good source of parts to change the orange lights to white, with orange bulb internals? Is this also an LED mod or a standard white-look bulb that lights up orange?

I have white front lens with orange bulbs. Rear I left orrange. These are now quite common on motorcycles too. The bulbs that are used by Guzzi have offset pins so a standard white bulb can not be used. I must look to see what type of bulb is fitted in the Morgan supplied white lens indicators and get a spare. idea

Morgan have conversion kits in their on-line shop (front and back are different), The price seems reasonable.

Peter, Gerry, thanks for the links.

On my ex-Mustang, I fitted clear lenses with Amber bulbs, that appeared white until they turned on - this meant the bulb behind the lens looked white until it turned on. Both of the links above come with amber bulbs, so perhaps no one has made this mod yet?

Simon,

Couldn't you change the lenses and fit something like this?

Careful. It's a case where the law has not caught up with the practicalities and LEDs could well be construed as breaking construction and use regulations - even if the light output is faster and brighter. Even true of new cars - but European Type approval trumps construction and use.

See Federation of British Historic Vehicle Clubs

I'll cough to having LED brake lights on the trike, but since brake lights were not fitted when it was built, if anyone objects - the response is I'll remove them to be legal. That having been said, most police are not clued up on the finer points of construction and use - if the vehicle is not dangerous and not causing problems to others they generally leave well alone.

Regarding clear lenses for the indicators - I got mine some years ago from SVC - here

http://www.s-v-c.co.uk/category/indicators/

At the time they only had the front (more modern) ones, and this was well before they were available from Librands or Morgan. The MCC units are excellent value! For the rear indicators I sourced clear Lucas L691 from Ebay and bought the bulbs separately. The orange bulbs are a good colour and I have never had any problems at MOT time. You can get silver-coated orange bulbs that don't look orange when unlit, but they're not quite as bright. I also have clear side indicators (see another thread) which were made for me but I couldn't get suitable orange bulbs, so I used Tamiya clear orange paint (for modelmaking) on standard clear bulbs, which has stood the test of time.

I'd like to change all the lights to LED but would prefer a properly designed, chrome plastic reflector rather than just sticking a "LED bulb" in the pathetic standard Lucas lamp unit. It's the reflector design that makes an LED unit - they are so directional that with a poor reflector they give a very uneven pattern and particularly poor coverage at the sides. I think though that the wing-top "torpedo" lights could easily be fitted with a bright white LED for a very effective "day running" light.

Nigel,

I have fitted LEDs in the wing top light fittings and they look very white and bright, ideal for daytime running lights.

I also changed the small bulbs in the headlamp unit with white LEDs as well, so they match the wings.

Neil....where did you get the LED bulbs for the wing top lights from? I've been trying to find some!
