A Dyane in action on the Exeter trial (Simms Stage) 2013 brave souls and very game. Steve thanks for your honesty - I will share a grim truth about my good lady here she is at the helm of one of her all time favourites a Toyota Landcruiser (1974), I hated it and it was a company vehicle used to visit Outstations mostly on dirt roads. The wheels were so rubbish the centres effectively moved necessitating a rebalance about every other trip out. I was on contract to the South African Airforce and the Radio Station Guards used to supply the Outstations with water in a 3 Tonne TK Bedford and she just loved driving that too !! And her favourite :-

Had a Plum & Custard in 1995, couldn't give it away, low mileage excellent condition, the little one used it as a wendy house whilst it studd on the drive for Months. Think i sold it for @ £600.00

Tried to catch a 2CV on a twisty road in Scotland it held the road like pidgeon sh*t on concrete , as I watched it tilt from side to side . I was in a 2 litre Volvo and not a hope in hell of going round those corners the same .

We had a bright blue 2CV in the eighties. Paid £400, ran it for two years and sold it for £420. Cracking little car, 2 cylinders and lots of fresh air, a bit like my M3W but rolled a bit more on the corners. Will be happy if the M3W proves half as good an investment. Notlob

I loved my 2CV (as previously mentioned on this forum). As DaveW and Whirewheel pointed out, like a Mog they are quirky and put a smile on your face.
Ours was invaluable when we moved into a ruin we were restoring in the Lot et Garonne which was half a mile from the road. The mud track up to the house was a chemin communal, the responsibility for making it into a road lay with the local mairie. For our first winter in the house it remained a mud track as the commune had no funds available in the budget to do the work. A set of snow and mud tyres on the 2CV and it was up and down like a rat up a drainpipe (the photo of the 2CV on this year's exeter trial looked like daily routine for us back then). Our 205 meanwhile had to live down at the bottom of the track. A wealthy friend who came to dinner in his V8 Range Rover suggested that was what I needed, (in truth if I'd had the money for a Rangie, I'd have just paid to get the road done myself) When he left after dinner the Range Rover just dug itself into the mud, so we hopped into the 2CV and went and fetched the neighbour with his tractor.
Sadly my 2CV had an unintentional viking style funeral. A fractured fuel pipe meant she met a fiery end.
The snap of the Ami 8 makes me wonder what happened to the Citroen styling department. Their latest offerings are rather stylish normal cars, such as the current model C5 which looks more like it should have four rings on it's nose rather than the double chevron. Back in the day, all Citroens looked quirky, and I had a sneaking feeling that their stylists were the guys who'd been chucked off their car design courses.

Regarding Citroen styling - I think that there is a glimmer of hope with the DS5 although the stylists suffer from the same H+S constraints that afflict everything we do. My dream garage would definitely contain a 2CV and an original DS. Don.

Oh how I wished I had held onto this one Freddy - inboard discs complete with penny sized separate brake pads for the super efficient handbrake. The cheapest motoring I ever had and somehow they were carefree I never once doubted it's reliability once you had waterproofed the ignition leads and coil. Happy Days. Terrific in the snow with the narrow tyres and large diameter wheels, we had it in Germany whilst working there and it could embarass quite a few Mercs and BMW's with their wide wheels not cutting through the snow. I love the AMI 8 too! Not many left though...
