I have a 2001 4/4 and found the same problem, bought her off Tim at New Elms in November last year and on the test drive found that the standard MMC steering wheel blocked the critical view of the speedo between 9-12 o’clock. As I already have 3 point on my licence! I decided to go for a Moto-Lita Mk9 (15”) wood rim. I purchased the wheel from Bryan Jones Autoquip Ltd. a bit cheaper and the Boss Kit was a good price. Would have liked a Classic 16” four spoke but expensive and a longish lead-time. The 15” is perfect. By the way I’m 5ft 10” – Eye level would I think have to be considered?
If you have an iPhone, you can have a GPS speedo for free. It's an app called "Dashboard" and you can display it in orange or green, and even mirror reversed so you can place it on top of a dashboard and have a "HUD" on your windscreen (perhaps not in a Morgan!).
Like all GPS speedos it lags when you change speed, so be aware of this limitation.
There's an "analogue gauge" GPS speedo for Android phones too (haven't tried this though).

Here's an image of the display (indoors and not moving!):
Not sure what happened with the link! The company is Digital Speedos www.digital-speedos.co.uk which incidentally is the provider of the speedo/rev counter in Chunky4/4s racer as I discovered after buying it! The one I've got is the DS100 GPS Micro Speedometer.
