Thanks you Graham , I'm glad someone knows what he's talking about...
I thought it was obvious that the wood is only in place to ride car over steel beams.
I've had car at least two feet in the air since November

ps Eddie you're so wrong and obviously not an engineer... It was certainly obvious to me what the use of the wood ramps were for...i am an Engineer and also had lots of practice lifting cars, seen lots of them come down when people have been careless on 2 and 4 posters ramps. It looks simplicstic and economical to build (id rather say cheap and nasty) no malice intended  i personnaly wouldn't lift a Pram on that contraption and i only hope you a) do not venture underneath b) drop a beautiful car a bend it. But each to his own, good luck

I'm with dean and Eddie having had/seen car come off purpose built ramps a few times in our workshops used by experienced staff on fully maintained ramps both 2 and 4 poster.
Re tyres...great tyre also fitted to my S1....colour looks groovy too

Sorry Robo no malice intended and I hope that came across because it looked a great idea at first but I am a mechanical engineer.
Please do not go under that unit with the car above it is not safe.
If you disagree why not send the pictures to the jack manufacturer and ask if they believe it is safe to work under the unit with a car unsupported by stands.

I wasn't saying it was safe Eddie, just pointing out that the ramps didn't appear to lift with the cross bars  . I won't even change a wheel on the 90 with a High-Lift alone as support - they may be great for lifting stuck motors out of bog holes (and large plant root systems out of the ground  ), but they aren't very stable...

Poor Robo...he's obviously put a lot of time and effort into building this. I've had a car drop onto me many years ago...luckily with nothing more than bad bruising, so I'm VERY wary of going under a car. If you are happy with the lift and the jacks are well secured to both floor and wall and you are not lifting too high, I'd stick wooden trestles under the car once up and take the strain off the jacks. The trestles are good enough for the factory.

Not poor Robo at all... do you think I’m all broke up over a few negative comments and about to go out and scrap it all – not really - I’m happy and that’s all that matters...
I’m not promoting it or attempting to gain approval as I don’t need it - neither do I need advice on safety...
Sighting accidents one’s encountered over the years doesn’t mean my system is unsafe. All this say’s is accidents can happen even when using the most sophisticated garage equipment – this being the case, why do you sceptics trust taking your cars into garages then? - it may fall off...
The manufacturer’s advice is not to exceed the weight marked on jack as this would cause the shear pin to give way. So let me think back to my original feasibility study - that’s four jacks each capable of lifting 3000kg, lifting a car weighing approx 1200kg - hummm!! No better not bother - its way too close to the limit...
Each jack is bolted to garage floor and mast bracketed back to wall. Both cross beams are safety pinned to jack lugs and vehicle is lifted on chassis rails, as advised by handbook. Jack lugs are at 90 degrees to cross beam, so there’s no increase to leverage beyond intended use, so unless the box section bends in two or my welding gives way the car is safe as houses. Bring your prams over and I’ll prove it...
Remember what the sceptics thought about the bouncing bomb...
