I was told to expect a few problems with Morgans. I wasn't expecting a laundry list. First, it came with the left side door that couldn't be opened at all. Also, the left side window wouldn't lower. On the first service, Phil corrected this. Sadly, on the way home, it decided to rain very heavily. But the wipers froze on the top setting, so I couldn't see very well. Phil had also forgotten to reconnect the window switch, so it was back to his. He sorted those, but now we have two new problems. Firstly, the plipper (remote locking) won't work. Secondly, the key, having locked and unlocked doors already, has decided to work no longer and is stuck permanently open. Is this level of unreliability standard, or am I extra unlucky?

Legally, I've got to give them a chance to put it right. I'm regretting the purchase now, though I do love the cars in general.

Try to think of a 'Hand Built' scenario worse than yours and it may help you feel better about things because they will be solved with the right approach. Make sure that Phil feeds back everything to the factory for their Continuous Improvement. I am sure that the more technology that goes into a hand built anything it is likely to suffer from the lack of the 'Right First Time Robotics' of the Mass Market, everyone has one, car. They have to spend years of hours perfecting the production line processes on the Mass Market car lines before production launch. Every Morgan is almost built like a new prototype. Thinking of the HIGH TECH, Huff House built across the culdesac from us. The HH Engineers were back and forth there for over a year snagging the Eco Systems before they settled down.

John, sorry to hear of the issues you are having. Some of them sound familiar from teething problems I had with my Aeromax.
Plipper - is yours the skinny 'tube' shaped one? If so, the stack of very small hearing aid type batteries it takes can become loose inside and result in a poor connection. I had to pack the inside with some sponge-backed tape and even now when I have had the plipper in my pocket for a while I have to give it a tap on my hand before it will work.
Door locks - you have a separate key to your ignition key for the door locks? If so, I find that manually locking the doors seems to work independently of the plipper. That is to say, if I have used the key to set the lock to the 'other' position than I used the plipper, it may not open. Don't know why this should be. There is a small button low down on the inner door panel that will show if you have the door locked shut. I release this and my keys/plipper will open the door. Sod's law, always happens when I am in a hurry, carrying something and it's raining.
Don't give up on the car this early in your relationship - if it does have to go back to the factory, my experience is that they will move a mountain to help as long as you approach this constructively. Looking forward to seeing you and your car in Wales.

My new plus 8 had a long list of things that needed correction including paint work, trim, screen etc.I put it all into a letter to my dealer. The car has just spent two weeks at the factory and is now perfect.

It's very irritating when things go wrong - key fobs, windows etc. If it's of any comfort, this stuff can happen on cars costing twice as much - but rarely on mid-level family boxes! I had a seriously expensive Aston that was never 'right'. I've a few glitches on my Roadster that need to be sorted out - warning lights, a nasty engine rattle that shouldn't be there. Try not to regret the purchase as that's going to erode your enjoyment. All this stuff can be fixed. It's such a beautiful car...
