When filling up does the pump nozzle shut off when full like it would in a conventional car? I don't want to be at the gas station for the first time with all eyes on me and spill gas all over. Thanks!

Hi Squiriz,
You may find that it cuts out several times before it's full....and then overflows doh
Fueling a Morgan (a trad at least) takes a bit of practice, I even changed my fuel cap to a Le Mans style because it's larger, it helped a bit but I still have to be careful.
It's just one of those idiosyncrasies of a Morgan innocent

It SHOULD cut off, but I've managed to cover my shoes in petrol twice when it didn't. As Steve says - be careful!

Chaps, there is some very useful information in this post which may be of help:

http://www.talkmorgan.com/ubbthreads.php/topics/129195/Petrol_Filling_Issues#Post129195

My filler also tends to "burp" fuel onto the back panel if it try to fill it too fast or too full. So, I'm going to check my filler vent line and if necessary modify it in accordance with the suggestion to maintain an upward sweep.

P.S. Apologies in advance if I've got my "threads crossed", so to speak, as the original post is on the M3W area.

I have not had mine overflow - YET - but if the nozzle is pushed in fully it tends to cut off. I find to push it in fully then pull out about 1" and keep a steady flow rather than full pressure it seems to work ok. Just make sure to shake off the drops at the end so it does not drip on the bodywork. Sorry - have just read that and no doubt there will be some derisory comments before long!OOH ERRRR MISSUS!!!

All replies from 4W owners, though MZ has spotted things smile
Squirlz is the owner of a 3W? Never having filled one, I can't comment on them...

Not really helpful, but I prefer to fill the vintage one from cans! With only a 3 gallon tank, no gauge and sited above the driver's legs a spill is both likely and not good news.

Also the local cheap station has over strong return springs on the filler hose and due to the position of the tank, easy to scratch the paint.

You only have one filler the +8s used to have two open both and you could shoot your petrol in . The problem with trads is the air pressure as you pump the petrol in its shoves the air out as well as some petrol a quirky job not pushing the petrol nozzle to far in to stop the air rushing out is the answer along with going slowly .
