Just been talking to the mechanic? who did my wife oil change on sat /m/ing . I was talking cars and spoke of the mog . He looked perplexed " what's a Morgan " . I have flue but that jolted me , " you are fooling me " he was not, never heard or seen one . When I spoke of a wood frame he looked at me as though I was the village lier . This is today's mechanic in his late 30s ? he looked thick what the hell does he read . 50 SHADES OF GREY NO DOUBT . I gave him a copy of mog mag to look at and he never even looked inside .I remember my mechanic mates in the 60s and 70s they could rhyme off almost any car and owned a few tatty but rare ones .

Sadly to many it's just a job nowadays.
Years ago, pretty much all mechanics were car enthusiasts too JT.

Cheers,

The guy's in the wrong job.

My 11 year old son can reel off just about any car maker stats you can think of... He's an enthusiast and knowledgable on most cars.

It's like someone in a record store not having heard of the Beatles. Mind you, there aren't any record stores! smile

They all read the latest computer magazines, don't know anything unless there is a game about it, and why should they when they can just google anything they need.. We needed to know stuff because that's how knowledge was transferred. You improved your credibility and thus the business if you could actually chat about the things you did. That's what Wickapedia is for now.

What the hec if we didn't have this technology we couldn't share our passion across the world in an instant

That's my two bitcoins worth anyway

You're absolutely right Graham,

I took my Mercedes 190 EVO2 to the local Mercedes dealer a few years back,to have my valve clearances checked, after a long discussion they almost threw me out, stating "all Mercedes Motorcars have hydraulic lifters Sir"..
Too sad, even the Workshop Manager never heard of shims banghead

Most of the garages around here (and car guys) have absolutely no clue what a morgan is. And if they do they say "oh, I never knew MG stood for something".

I've run into a handful of people who know what make the car is. One person got 1/2 credit for knowing that "it is that car with a wooden chassis"

If it makes you feel any better, the Nissan DEALERSHIP didn't know what my bone stock 200sx was.

How many points do they get for "Oh it's new. It's a replica then?"
